Getting a new graphics card

Going to be giving my current two xfx 7950's to my sons by way of building them their own gaming pc's. Now the question is what is the best single gpu for the money. Keep in mind that i will most likely be crossfire/sli which ever i get in the future when the need arrives. The 290x kinda seems like a waste of money with the 290 sitting there and the same goes for the 780/780ti situation. Does anyone really think amd will deliver on the claims of mantle as well as get it implemented in time before i upgrade again in 3-4 years anyway. Current build is in the signature thank you in advance for your suggestions

To match the current rig you'll be looking at R9 290/GTX780 class cards for a single card solution.
For excellent gameplay at 1080 res (I'll assume a 60Hz display) the R9 280X or GTX770 will be fine, only the most demanding games at Ultra settings are going to cause any possible slowdowns.
If you're already familiar with the quirks of Crossfire and can live with it, why not a pair of R9 270s? They're not far off the performance of the 7950 and, frankly, rather more muscle than you need for a single 1080 screen.

Well I do love my gtx titan but it is a waste of money ( better me than the wife thats how I see it :) ). I've never been fond of either sli or crossfire myself but personally I'd just drop in a 770 or say a r9 280x if you only want a single card and for sure plan to sli/crossfire. I've never been a fan of trying to future proof. Just buy for what you want right now.

I actually really like the titan and i am a fan of spending money before my wife can crossfire has been great to me mostly because i had some really good friends who had experience with it and they gave me great advice. If the 280x was actually 299 i would get one but its so close in price to the 290 its hard to make an argument to get it. I just worry about the heat issue. And the gtx just seems like it is well priced.
