Hello, my speakers are not working. They used to work before, but haven't for quite some time. I've been using my Corsair Vengance USB only headset so didn't realize. Now my headset is messed up so I discovered the issue.

Gigabyte GA 970A D3
Windows 8.1
FX 6300
Sapphire HD 6870
8gb Ram

My speakers are not working at all. Or headphones really. Anything that goes into the speaker port. Have plugged it into both the front and back lime green ports.

Speakers are fine themselves, tested them with an ipod.

It says the speakers are connected but I hear no sound.

With my motherboard, I am sure its VIA HD Audio drivers. The earlier revisions of the motherboard were Realtek but I have tried those drivers just for the sake of it.

DXDiag only recognizes the HD audio device with VIA drivers. The SPDIF are recognized all the time. With VIA Drivers, it says speakers are connected and windows says i am getting sound (Green bar going up and down). But not getting any sound.

I have tried:

- Going into device manager and making sure only VIA HD is selected. Disabled others. No avail. Uninstalled others no avail.
- Updated and older revisions of the driver (From motherboard disc as well). Did a proper clean using driver fusion as well. Installed it by running them as administrator.
- Older revisions of motherboard had a Realtek device. I've made sure to try out various versions of those drivers as well.
- Having default drivers does not work as they do not recognize the sound device at all.
- Using a software called SlimDrivers to check for any updates I may have missed somehow
- Updating BIOS. Going into BIOS and making sure onboard sound is working.

Questions:

- In Bios, I checked to make sure HD Azalia device is enabled. Has this to do with anything? Does it tell you guys something?
- In my Via Envy HD Audio Deck, I see all the ports greyed out. However, when I disable front panel detection from the software. It says jack is plugged in and the front ports are no longer greyed out (Meaning they should be working). When I disable front panel detection, I get a message that jack was plugged out. I have tried connecting my speakers there to no avail?

Is it a VIA HD issue? Windows 8.1?

Please tell me if you know of any solutions. I've become a little frustrated trying what I could find haha.

Many thanks.

Do not use driver finding software. Go straight to the motherboard maker's website (link below). Driver-finding software should only be used when you don't know who the hardware manufacturer is.

HD Azalia Device refers to the integrated sound adapter. If your speakers are plugged in to that adapter, it should be set to "Enabled" in the BIOS settings.

The correct drivers for the integrated sound adapter will be on the Gigabyte support website:
http://www.gigabyte.eu/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx

You will need to know the revision number of your motherboard. It will be printed on the motherboard itself.

Hello Phillip. I only used the driver finding software after my normal attempts failed.

I got my drivers from the Gigabyte website to begin with. It is revision 3. I just tried the older revisions as I was pulling my hair out at that point. That's why I tried the software (Only after my normal attempts failed). I even went to the Realtek and Via website to get drivers off them directly. However, on VIA website I could not find the drivers.
