I'm currently in the process of building a new computer which I'll be using extensively. Mostly for gaming and movies. I play FPS (bf4, crysis, farcry etc) but I also play games like League of Legends and SC2. I'm stuck in a dilemma not knowing whether to get a nice 2560 x 1440p monitor or a 120 Hz. Can you guys recommend anything?

movies = 1080p, therefore a 120Hz 1080p monitor, else you'll upscaling and losing some quality. also 1440p will need a substantially faster pc.

Yes I realize it will require more power. My budget for the pc (excluding monitor, peripherals etc) is around £1,300-1,600 or in dollars $2000-2500.

If that is the case,I'd recommend the 1440p monitor as you'll be able to get yourself a nice gpu like a 780ti with that amount of money or even a sli/xfire.And if you're a hardcore gamer the difference between 1440p and 1080p is pretty nice.It looks much more better but if you mainly watch movies,a 1080p monitor would be better due to the upscaling as stated above.

Just did some more googling and it seems Asus is coming out with a 1440p 120 hz late q1. Would you recommend me getting the 780ti or is something newer close to release?

Why not 1440p, 120hz and an IPS panel? There are a few Korean monitors that can do this at very cheap prices. Qnix and x-star are the most popular, I have the x-star myself. To achieve the 120hz you need to overclock the monitor but they are guaranteed 96hz overclocked, with most people being able to get 110-120hz.

You can buy from ebay, maybe newegg will have it also. Dream-seller is my recommended seller on ebay. http://2560x1440monitor.com/ is also a very good website you can buy from.

Don't go for a pixel perfect monitor, they don't check them anyway. I bought a standard one and got 1 dead pixel and no backlight bleeding so. All the monitors come with a 1 year warranty.
