Hi I'm about to start building my pc and I don't want to spend to much on a motherboard. I am not planning on overclocking at all and i was wondering if I would be okay with getting a ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 ATX AM3+ for a AMD FX-6300 6 core processor. If not do you have any suggestions on the cheapest one I could get. On Pcpartpicker it says it might possibly need a BIOS Update. Does it need one and if so how do i get it. Thank you in advance.

Yeh I'm already getting a Radeon HD 7870 graphics card for gaming thanks.

You have picked a good board; good value for the price!

Sometimes (sometimes often) boards will beed the BIOS updated. This is usually done by logging in on the board manufacturer's site. There you will find detailed instructions for updating (also referred to as "flashing the BIOS") the BIOS.

Some boards will have more than one BIOS flashing in order to address some issues (not necessarily defects). This is not abnormal.

Ok thanks

Sometimes the board may need BIOS flashing on more than one occasion. On my Z77 board I flashed the BIOS 3 times over a period of 6 months; three different BIOS versions.

When you order/buy a motherboard, you typically have no idea which version BIOS it has unless the packaging or advertisement specifically states a BIOS version. The BIOS version is installed when the motherboard is manufactured and will generally only support CPUs currently on the market when they were built. Most motherboards require a compatible/working CPU to upgrade the BIOS, so you could be stuck if you have an older BIOS version. I understand your being on a budget, but you will probably be better off getting a motherboard that does not give you the BIOS warning. Or, if you have a computer shop/store near you, they might be able to upgrade the motherboard BIOS for you (at a cost).

Although your facts are completely correct, I don't believe i would worry about it to much in this case... That processor has been out for quite sometime and almost all the current AM3+ boards have been updated to support it and many other FX CPU's.
