Hi.

Memory has always been kinda a weak spot in hardware for me so I am not sure what is happening here.

I bought a Laptop that has 2x4096 @ 1066MHz DD3. That is what description says. Laptop is:

ACER Aspire E1-522 NX.M81EX.033 In memory it says:

Memory [MHz] 1066

Now I did some benchmarking and I found some weird stuff. I took some screenshots for easier review.

I need help with:

1. Why is my memory single channel if there are 2 chips? max capacity is 2 slots too.
2. What is the actual speed of my memory? Is it 800MHz DDR3?
3. What exactly means (from AIDA) "Single Channel DDR3 1600 SDRAM (some numbers...)

4. My BIOS is almost without options except changing the boot order and few other things that mean nothing. Can I "overclock" the memory in any way?
5. Can I make my memory dual-channel? I don't want to take it out yet because if one of 4GBs is 800 MHz DDR3 I am returning the laptop.

I prolly have other questions but I really need to know this first.

Below you can find the screenshots from various programs.

Thank you in advance.

with ddr ram the real speed is shown with cpu-z. 1066 ram is 533. 1600 ram is 800 speed in cpu-z.
if the laptop is used it looks like someone upgraded the unit to it max memory.
if it was new then your lucky the standard ram is 6g for that model.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I targeted that model because of 8GB instead of 6gb which I saw all over the place. I bought the last one :)

But anyway, don't get me wrong, I still have no idea what is the speed of memory. So I have DDR3 1600 but it is actually 2x800MHz and not 1066MHz per memory chipset as was advertised?

As said, I am a bit confused with memory since I really never needed to take a closer look. Also, what about dualchannel and rest?

Thanks.

your ram is 1600 speed or faster then the ram it was going to have. ddr-2/ddr-3 ram is marketed wrong.
1066 ram is 533 speed. 1333 ram is 633 or so speed. 1600 is 800 speed. 2100 ram would be 1060 or so.
with new laptops. this is a big gotcha to you when you buy pc that are pre built. the vendor can use one ram stick or two if it wants too. as long as it sold with the right ram size. i find crucial memory advisor that free reads most laptops and system boards right. with laptops it it depening how the wired the ram slots. your not losing any speed if the slots are wired as singal chanel mode.

Ah ok.

Thank you for clarification.

Also, on another note... since it is impossible to overclock anything via BIOS here, is it possible to use something else to speed up the hardware?
Mostly CPU. I didn't see any options in these proggies for that so I'm just wondering. I know A6 isn't that good so it would be nice to pump it a little for my work.

Thanks.
