Dual monitor displays

A strange problem, I've now got my nice new shiny laptop...... and I've connected my existing monitor to it.All Ok so far. I set the monitors the "extend" and all still ok. (Did exactly what I expected.) However, due to the hdmi port being on the left of the laptop and the cable being a little short, I decided to move the monitor to the left of my laptop. Now everything's going strange. The mouse seems to work in the opposite direction, and opened windows have to be dragged the opposite direction to get them on the other screen.Hope you understand what I mean.Any thoughts?

If you have Windows 7, right click on the desktop, selection "Screen Resolution" There should be a picture with two monitors. You can click and drag them around to match what you have on your desk. That should fix the problem.

Hi, thanks for the reply. However I'm informed by a friend that in "extend" setting, the dual monitor needs to be to the right everytime. So, I've sent off for a hdmi extension cable to make things a little more tidy. I don' believe the resolution setting was an issue though.

My computer lets me have the secondary monitor to the left. All I do is drag it over to the left on the "screen resolution" control panel, hit apply, and it is now set left. I believe it defaults to the right, but you can change it.

Follow the instructions the first responder gave you. You have to let windows know where the monitors are relative to each other. I run a 4 screen setup that is in the shape of a T (3 monitrs side by side with one big screen above the middle). You can designate any of the screens as primary, that is not a factor. For he mouse movement to be logically correct you simply have to let windows know where the monitors are relative to each other.
