Well...after searching much on google...i thought this was the best place to ask this question,,,can some one suggest me an am2 socket processor which is good for gaming and is cheap
my pc
2 gb ram
nvidia geforce 210 1 gb
amd sempron 145 3.0ghz (overclocked)
motherboard-nvidia zotac mcp-61
my budget-60$

Solution
With a lowly GT 210 and only 2GB RAM, the single core Sempron is probably enough. But since you asked...
Are you sure of that motherboard designation you listed? The MCP-61 is the Nvidia Northbridge chip, not the MB name. Is it by any chance an MSI MB like this: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/K9N6SGM-V---K9N6PGM-FI---K9N6PGM-F.html
You have to be sure to know what processors it will accept and if you need a BIOS update. The name should be printed on the MB around the expansion slots.

OK...
Here is the list of processors that MB in the link I sent will support: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/K9N6SGM-V---K9N6PGM-FI---K9N6PGM-F.html#/?div=CPUSupport
Make note of the BIOS revision necessary to recognize newer processors. The BIOS version is the number in the far right column. Check your BIOS you have now and see what version it is.

Of course, finding one of those processors new is almost impossible. You will need search out sites like ebay.

Well sorry the motherboard you mentioned was a bit similar to mine but the exact one is this "www.zotac.com/products/mainboard/amd-cpu/zotac-geforce-6100/product/zotac-geforce-6100/detail/geforce-6100-value-1.html

There appears to be 2 Zotac boards with that designation.
ZOTAC GeForce 6100 Value (GF6100-F-E). The CPU support is listed here: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ZOTAC/GeForce_6100_Value_%28GF6100-F-E%29.html
ZOTAC GeForce 6100 Value (GF6100-Value). The CPU support is listed here: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ZOTAC/GeForce_6100_Value_%28GF6100-Value%29.html

If yours is the latter one (ZOTAC GeForce 6100 Value (GF6100-Value)), it appears to have been made with AM2, AM2+, and AM3 sockets. In the right column on those pages, you can filter out just the CPUs for the socket your board came with. For instance, if you are sure your's has the AM2 socket, click on "socket AM2". The remaining CPUs should fit your MB.

the link you send me clearly states on top of cpu list "socket am2" then why cpu like athlon II x2 255 are also in list but this cpu requires am2+ or am3 socket minimum....i have heard that am3 socket processors run on am2 socket....i would be very thankful if you clear my this doubt..

Yes, Socket AM3 processors are able to run on Socket AM2 and AM2+ motherboards with appropriate bios updates, but not vice-versa. But since it is not listed in the CPU suppoprt list and there are no BIOS updates available (that I know of), it would be careless of me to recommend you grab any ol' AM3 CPU and try to use it.

When you find a CPU, use the CPU WORLD site to verify its compatibilty. In the meantime, here is some reading that may help clear things up. The AMD CPU/socket maze gets kind of confusing.

AM3 socket: 941 pins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM3
AM2+ socket: 940 pins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2%2B
AM2 Socket: 940 pins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2

Well i was an idiot i could not even realise that my present cpu amd sempron 145 was too an am3 socket cpu but the only difference between athlon II x2 255 and 280 is 255 is 3.1 ghz and 280 is 3.6 ghz also only 255 was on the cpu support list , now amd sempron 145 and athlon II X2 255 were released in same year i.e. 2010 it means 255 will run in my mobo without any bios upgrade.....im gonno get the 255, i know theres a bit risk and thanks for your help .,.
