Ok so i have a evga 650 ti boost 2 gb sc, would it be better to buy a second one for $160 and sli it or spend $510 and get a gtx 780?

Now i know one card is always better then multi gpu but i have heard the scaling is great with my card and $160 vs $510, would there be a big difference in fps compared to price?

Thanks.

A single 780 would be faster. Usually around 10 fps faster at high settings. But with maxwell supposedly coming in a couple of months it may be prudent to get the 2nd 650 now then just get a new 880 or 870(if Nvidia keeps their current model number scheme) when they release.

I would not use FPS as a sole criteria.
There will always be quality issues such as tearing or stuttering with dual cards.
It is a quality thing, not a fps thing as different gpu's will never exactly prepare their part of the image in sync.

And... how good do you need to be?
On a single 1080P monitor, a GTX770 will game very well.

I would go the better single card route if I could.

Most definitely buy a single card if you would otherwise need a motherboard change.
I might buy a less expensive 2gb card instead. This superclocked version will perform about the same for less:

2gb vs. 4gb does not seem to be a significant performance difference:
