no, they arent running the same OS so i would probably need to completely wipe one of them, but is there a way to connect a desktop HDD to my laptop?

Solution
You need to use a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter, plug the 2.5" one into your laptop and the 3.5" end into your HDD. It MAY cause corruption because of the file differences though. Your best bet is to get an external hard drive.

You can try eBay, newegg, or amazon.

For converting the 3.5" to 2.5", use this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994064
