Ok I have a question , I am looking at ram on new egg and I know to dual channel you have to buy in pairs, and to quad channel you have to the 4 sticks In the same kit , so how does dual channel work do I simply put the two sticks in the mb that supports dual channel and it automatically does it or do I have to configure it , and also can I dual channel and put another stick in will that still be dual channel with a separate stick. Or I am limited to 2 sticks if I choose dual channel.

Dual channel you typically want all the same sticks from a single package be it 2 or 4 sticks...with 2 the norm is set them in slots 1-3 or 2-4 if you add one additional stick then if the mobo runs flex mode your original (say 2x4GB) will continue in dual and the odd third one will run in single - if the mobo doesn't have flex or a variety then all drop to single channel mode, there's other variants, all depends on the mobo/BIOS, if you have 2x4 and put both in Channel A i.e. slots 1-2 and put a 8GB stick in slot 3 then with 8 GB in each channel it will run all 16GB in dual channel
