overclocking a fx 6300 is pretty easy because it comes with an unlocked multiplier
to overclock, boot into your uefi (with asus and most other motherboards, hold the "del" key after starting your pc
then go to advanced settings and be sure you are in the ai tweaker menu
change the ai tweaker tuner to manual and set following values:
AMD Turbo CORE Technology - Disable
CPU Bus Frequency - 200
PCIe Bus Frequency - Auto or 100 (which is default)
CPU Spread Spectrum - Disable
PCIe Spread Spectrum - Disable
EPU Power Saving Mode - Disabled
CPU & NB Voltage - Change from Offset to Manual
CPU Manual Voltage - 1.325v
CPU/NB Manual Voltage - 1.187v
to gain your frequency you wanna have, just mutlipliy your cpu bus frequency (fsb, default 200) to your multiplier
your bus frequency is 200 and your default multiplier 17.5 = 3,5ghz
to overclock know to your turbo frequency, just increase the multiplier, so that 200 * x = 4,1 ghz
so change your multiplier to 20.5
save the setting and reboot
im not sure if the cpu voltage of 1.325 is enough, if your pc boots, you are fine first, if not, slightyl increase your voltage e.g. to 1.334
if you successfully booted, you should/must test for stability and temps know, so get a few tools called "prime95", "cpu-z" and "hwmonitor"
this tools are all free
with cpu-z, you can check your cpu frequency and voltage
with hwmonitor, you can see your cpu temps
with prime95, make a blend test
this blend test lets your cpu calculate pi numbers and you will see, how the temp is going up (100% cpu load)
always keep an eye on your temps
your safe temps are:
max. safe socket temp: 70° C
max. safe core temp: 62° C
let this test run about 15min and watch out, if you dont reach this safe temps
if a test should fail (prime95 will write "worker stopped" at the core) or you get a bluescreen, slightly increase your cpu voltage again, but only, if you have not reached your max safe temps yet
if your temp is too high, slightly decrease your multiplier (e.g. to 20), which will result in 4ghz and test for stability with prime again
always keep an eye on your temps
i heard of people overclocking the fx 6300 to 4.5 ghz on air, so with 4.1 you should be fine if you don't have a really bad chip (overclocking always depends on your cpu too, every chip is different in this terms)
a whole load of information, i know, i hope you can understand it
if you have any further questions, feel free to ask
p.s.: about all the settings listed above, it does exist a pretty good overclocking guide for piledriver cpus (like yours is):
http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-piledriver-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboard
this is leaned on asus motherboard, but you can easily adopted to other ones if you dont have an asus
