Hi,

Ok, the thing is, I haven't used my desktop in a while, maybe over a month, and today, when I tried to use it, the monitor didn't start. It's an old(ish) CRT but it has always worked just fine. I've realized I left it on stand by all this time, could that be the cause? After starting the pc I've tried shutting it down (the monitor) and then back on and it made that characteristic "thumb" sound they make when starting but went to stand by again and never lit up.
Please, could someone give me a hint about what's going on?

Older tube monitors can go bad. If it has a fuse try replacing it but, and I can't stress this enough;

DONT GO FIDDELING AROUND INSIDE THE CASE!

CRT's use high voltage power supplies (thus the thrumb sound) and can deliver lethal voltage on contact.

The parts to avoid are the electron gun and the aquadag. These are located at the rear of the tube and along the top of the tube.

If the monitor is bad please dispose of it properly as the tube is evacuated and can implode.
