4Tb HD fully formatted, but cant access over 2Tb

I'm trying to put a WD 4Tb hard drive (for data storage only) in my older Dell XPS 420 with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS. I set it up as a GPT, but when I tried to format it, only 2Tb was available. I then tried putting the HD in a newer Dell and was able to format the full 4Tb and copy my data onto it. I then re-installed it in the XPS420. It shows up as a 4Tb in Windows Explorer and all my files are visible, but when I try to actually open a file that's beyond 2Tb, I get an error. Any ideas on where to go from here?
