Hi, I have been using a Lenovo Y510p for four months now and it didnt cause any problems so far. Yet few weeks back all of a sudden, all my games started lagging severely. When I say I mean lag spikes every 3 or 4 seconds. Making everything unplayable. At first I thought it would go away with a fresh re-install of windows 8. Yet the lag issue wasnt solved even after the re install. So I am assuming this is a hard ware issue? My configuration is:
Processor: Core i7 - 4700MQ CPU @ 2.4 GHZ
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics: Nvidia GT 750M
OS: WIndows 8.1 Pro
HDD: 1TB 5400RPM

I still have warranty in Canada, but I dont know how to avail it. Please help me in this matter and how I can fix this. Thank you.

Well, if it is a hardware problem, there's nothing you can do with a laptop besides return it or get a replacement.

You could have picked up some malware that is messing about, use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to do a scan and see if it picks anything up. If you do that and it cleans it out and you still don't see a difference, you may need to get a refund on that.

Well I tried what you said, it doesnt make a difference. As I have mentioned, the lag persisted even after doing a fresh reinstall of Windows. What are the chances its a hardware related problem? Any way to diagnose that?

Not enough power. Disable sli problem should go away. Check that your 170w power supply is still putting out the juice.

Worked for me hopefully it will for you as well.

I have the same problem. I uninstalled the nvidia card driver (current version) and nvidia geforce experience and revert to old (previous driver older than that) and problem solved. may be you can try that.

I have the exact same problem with a two-month old Dell Inspiron 14-7447, all of a sudden games started running very slow, even with lowest setting for a slow story-driven adventure game like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I hardly use the notebook for gaming and mostly for movie and Internet surfing and therefore only noticed this sudden slowdown yesterday but the game and others worked fine when I tested them at the time I bought the notebook.

any advice on which forum or sections are appropriate to post more detailed info and obtain more technical guidance on this ?

Google: "Lenovo Solution Center Windows 8.1" (or whatever Windows version you're using), and download it. It has hardware diagnostics, and will give you a code to give to support as well.
