Is it okay to hold the Heatsink?

So I installed my CPU and Heatsink on the MOBO. And now I can hold the MOBO up easily by holding the heatsink.

Is it alright to hold it by the heatsink or will it damage the heatsink instead?

Hey Olivarius,

depending on your heatsink, that is fine and is better than holding your motherboard by the PCB.

Assuming that you have an stock intel cooler, that should be 100% fine.

Gives you a great point to hold your motherboard on, and I do it all the time.

Oh shoot... I actually did that... But the silvery parts didn't break off. That should be fine?

What about my fingers? Will the dirt and/or finger oil affect the heatsink?

I have an i3 3220. Using the heatsink and fan provided. Is this heatsink okay to hold onto?

Also, may I know what is a PCB and Stock Intel Cooler?

I was holding the motherboard up by the heatsink to fit it into the I/O shield and Standoffs. During the fitting, I touched the silver blades(I dont know what it is called) on the heatsink and it turned a bit away from its original location (Like a person looking straight but he turned his head just a little bit). But it didn't break. Is that fine or the heatsink is already damaged?

Also, what about my fingers? Will the dirt and/or finger oil affect the heatsink?

Hey Oilva, the sliver blade is actual heatsink- and the fan in the fan on the stock Intel cooler, which is the heat-sink and fan provided. Your heatsink is 100% fine and will be good to go.

Your oils wont affect the heatsink- however they will affect the CPU.

Thanks for the reply! It was really helpful :) Keep up the good work!

I didn't touch the bits of the CPU as instructed by watching on of Carey Holzman's video :D

Cheers!
