Hi :) So I had to replace the hard drive in a HP ENVY Ultrabook 4-1015dx, with the exact same hard drive it originally came with, HGST Travelstar Z5k500.

When I first turned on the laptop after the hard drive was changed I got a menu that had an option to convert to non-raid or exit. I hit enter and then it said no bootable devices hit any key or something like that. So I plugged in the flash drive with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, changed bios startup to boot from the USB and continued with the installation of Windows. After it was almost done and the computer restarted it said, "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". I've looked around and it seems to be something with raid and a missing driver, but what I've found is usually pertaining to the posters computer. I've tried plugging in another flash drive before installing with what I thought was the compatible driver but it says no compatible drivers were found.

Anyone have an idea?

I would put it into the configuration it was in originaly. But look into the following, check and see if there is a BIOS update avilable for your computer and update it. ensure your Chispset and SATA controller drivers are up to date.

Question when you recieved the BSOD with that error did you check the HDD to see if it actually failed or did you assume that it was bad because the computer would no longer boot and just BSOD'ed? You may have had bad data written to the disk causing the BSOD. If you verifed the disk and it was bad then that was the primary source of the BSOD and error. If you have not checked the disk I recomend putting it in another computer and seeing if you can create and format a new partition on the disk. If the...

I downloaded this one, if I can post links.. http://

and the one on the actual laptops driver page but neither of them work. I plug in the USB with the drivers when I get to the choose a HHD to install on and it tells me there were no compatible drivers found.

I used the "SetupRST.exe", do I use the "f6flpyx64"?

No I did not, or at least I don't think I did, how would I do that?

You will beed to go into the BIOS/UEFI and set the two drives back up to work together. When the one drive failed it broke the drive software configuration in the BIOUS/UEFI it uses drive serial numbers to assign the configuration. what settings you have to configure you will have to figure out as their are many differant BIOS/UEFI configurations. but it should be in something called SATA, drive, or RAID configuration or settings. You may have hunt and peck to find the right settings. dont worry too much about messing it up you can just restore all defualt settings if needed.

Well how do I get to those options? I go into BIOS Setup(F10) > System Configurations > Boot Options, what I see that is anything close to that is UEFI Boot Order and Legacy Boot Order.

Other than that everything else is just Enabled or Disabled options.

I checked mine and it is under storage configuration. once you set your storage configuration type assuming your original configuration was RAID (I do not know what your original configuration was). You will save the settings then you will need to build the array (assuming that it was originally a RAID). this may be another separate utility that you have to enter. once in that utility you would rebuild the array and save it. this other utility looks almost the same as the BIOS. I am assuming that it was in a RAID configuration because of the original message you received but again I do not know how your laptop was originally configured.

I'm trying it with the other driver now and it seems to have accepted it.

As for the disk configuration, is this the window I have to get to?
Raid-Bios.jpg

I was prompted with that when I first installed the HDD and powered on the laptop, only option 3 and 6 were available. So I chose option 3. Now it just gives me the option for F4, F8, etc. I just need to figure how to get here.

This screen comes up before the driver installation and yes that is where you configure a RAID array. As you can see it says your HDD is disabled.

If you cannot get to the IRST Options and it is not comming up during BIOS posting you need to change settings in your BIOS. That screen will not come up until your storage is configured and set to RAID.

You will need to go into the BIOS and set the storage settings to RAID. once you do that the IRST options screen will come back up.

Do you know how your drives were originaly configured? were they orignaly in RAID?

Also why does that picture show a 1TB western digital drive? Eariler you said that you installed a 500GB HSGT drive. This may also be contrubuting to the problem.

Ah sorry, I forgot to mention that is not from the laptop I am trying to work on. That is what first came up when I turned on the laptop.

Yes the drives originally were configured in RAID.

So Windows successfully installed. Thank You for the help on the drivers!

A question, the reason I had to replace the HDD was because the laptop got BSOD, iastor.sys. Others with the same laptop have gotten the same BSOD. That is the driver for the RAID, should I not set it up? or is it present regardless of if I set the HDD back to RAID or leave it as it is?

If the disk is good put in an enclosure and use it as an exterinal drive.

Okay thank you. Would those driver updates be under HP's website for the laptop? or I find the information and driver manually?

Well when I first got the BSOD I tried to reinstall windows and the drive wouldn't even come up in the window that tells you which drive you would like to install windows on. So I tried it on my desktop and it still wouldn't read it. I'm assuming/assumed it was dead?

BIOS updates will come from HP. Chipset and SATA drivers from Intel.

If your HDD truley died that is why you got the error and i would not worry about it happening again. unless of cource the new drive fails.

Now for the old drive. What do you mean your desktop would not read it? are you saying that it did not showup under my computer as an avilable Hard drive? If so that is normal for an unconfigured drive.

Some things you can check on that old HDD.
1. Install the old HDD back into the desktop.
2. See if the HDD is detected by the BIOS.
3. If the HDD is detected by the BIOS boot into windows.
4. Check my computer if the disk is not there that is fine.'
5. Go to the control panel and go into administrative tools
6. In administrative tools open computer manigmant
7. In computer maingamnt open disk manigamnt
8. Once disk management opens look and see if the disk is there without a drive letter assinged.
9. If it is there without a drive letter create a new simple volume and format the disk.
10. If the drive is not there or the creation and formating of the disk fails the disk is likley bad.
11. If the disk is there and a volume can be created and formated the disk is good.
