SSD - not recognized in BIOS

Hi,
Have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop.
Bought a 240GB SSD (Seagate 600) and also an HD Caddy that fits the optical drive bay. Removed the existing DVD optical drive and installed the SSD in the HD Caddy.
However BIOS does not detect the drive. Computer BIOS is the latest version available on the DELL support site (A15). BIOS says that SATA is in AHCI mode.
Any ideas what I can do or is the laptop too old to support this SSD (doubt it - but it is possible).

I finally figured out the HD Caddy was defective. So i returned the HD Caddy and bought a new one
This time I was able to install the SSD in the caddy and it is recognized as per the instructions in the link to the video provided for installation

Thanks for your response. I had seen this video and used it as my installation guide. For the guy in the video the 64GB SSD drive showed up without any problem - which is why I am surprised/concerned as it seemed a pretty straightforward task to install the SSD.
Unfortunately, dont have access to another PC or laptop. Could the SSD be DOA? If so how can I check that?

The chances of your SSD being DOA are slim, but it is possible. If you don't have access to another PC to test with, you'll need to be able to hook up the SSD to another port, such as a USB port, to test to see if it can be recognized and accessed.

I use something similar to this:

to allow me to connect any SATA drive to a USB port. This adapter cable is something that you should be able to find at a local computer store if you have one in your area. Once you get the adapter, then just attach it to your SSD drive and hook it to your USB port. If the drive is working it should be visible within a few seconds.
