Does anyone know where i can get some cheap ram? i want 8 gigs and the best price i found is $80

Well you can always get used RAM. But last year a facility that makes the modules that gets shipped to companies that distribute (Corsair, G.Skill...etc) burned down. Which explains the price increase.
As for cheap-Used or coupons/deals. and with DDR4 coming soon, the prices should descend a bit, but for now-who knows how the market may fluctuate.

I was thinking of getting a 16gb 2x8 kit but just can't justify spending the $150 on it considering how cheap it was not that long ago.

Maybe, but with things like the samsung magician rapid (ram caching) I could see extra ram being useful

RAMDisk has a free version that uses up to 4GB

Forgot about ramdisk, I haven't tried it, then again I didn't know about the free version. Then again it's not that expensive to begin with.

It works well, and in a mid range RAM setup - up to 16GB the free 4GB version is about perfect
