Should I upgrade to AMD FX6300?

Hello,

My name is John. Sorry if I am posting this wrong, it is my first time posting in a forum ever lol. I've gotten alot of good info from you all at tom's so I thought I'd get more personal.

This is my rig right now:

MoBo: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-s2 rev 1.1

CPU: AMD FX4100 Black Edition

GC: Zotac Nvidia GTX660ti

RAM: 8Gb DDr3 at 1333 Mhz

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

HDD: Toshiba Hitachi 500Gb 7200rpm (model HDS721050DLE60)

PSU: 750w OCZ FATAL1TY

Case: Xion Echo Mid Tower

So here's my question. Should I upgrade to a AMD FX6300? I think its the best my board supports, but I have heard some of the Phenoms are good too. Before you all start smashing my rig with harsh insults, yes, it WAS a prebuild. I thought it was a good Idea to have a "professional" build my rig first, as I am no expert. I thought all I needed was somewhere to start at, and I'd just slowly upgrade at my budget. BAD IDEA! lol. I found out just about everything in it was garbage First thing I spent around $300 and got that pretty GTX660ti to replace the GT610 in it. It blew the CRAP power supply that the "professionals" at iBuyPower put in my so called Gaming PC. That was scary. A loud noise and smoke from my new PC almost caused cardiac arrest. So I got that OCZ Fatal1ty, and thank god my other components were ok. I Put in an extra case fan with red LEDs and was happy with the look and performance. I've been playing Dishonered, Starcraft 2, Dragon Age 2, and many other games all at full settings on my 40" 1080p TV. I have experienced no framerate problems and my card was staying nice and cool, never seen it go above 60c. So I figure I can Handle COD Ghosts. I installed it and have been playing on medium-ish settings. No heat problems from my card, and nice smooth framerates while playing. That was my main concern, since according to Activision it was below the recommended card, which is like a $600 card(GTX 760 or something). My CPU is above the recommended so I wasn't worried. Despite all the horrible reveiws here, I wasn't having any problems with my FX4100 until then. On COD Ghosts I noticed a little bit of what I call "lag" during the load scenes. If you haven't played COD Ghosts, it plays a little cut scene during load screens that tells the story. It would skip sometimes during these cutscenes. I know its not lag, but for lack of a better word... So I started investigating. While the game is running my CPU was at 60%-70% load, but on load screens, it spiked to 100%, no matter what the settings were at. While investigating this my CPU Fan burned out. Still spins, but not fast. iBuyPower=iBuyCrap. I don't OC so I figured the stock one would be fine...wrong. I ordered a Noctua NH-U12S 120x120x25 ( NF-F12 PWM) SSO2-Bearing CPU Cooler to replace it (hopefully it fits). I've been thinking about getting the FX6300 to replace the CPU but I'm not sure that it would be worth it, or fix the issue. I have read on other forums that the FX6300 only gets 6%-8% performance increase in games compared to the FX4100, which is not worth it. I know if I could afford it I should get a new Motherboard and CPU, but that would mean I spent $500+ on a case and a copy of windows :(. Please help! Are there other things I'm overlooking that could be causing my CPU to spike on the load screens, but not during play? and even so, would it still be worth the upgrade to FX6300? I don't think it was overheating because the fan was working fine. I Heard it when it went out. It was a very loud fan, now quiet all of a sudden. Also should I get a faster Hard Drive?
Is 7200rpm enough for Gaming? I'm not sure what the cache is but its prob only 16Mb, would I see a difference if I got a 10000rpm with 64Mb? I cant afford SSD right now and I've read you don't need it for games. Plus My MoBo and CPU would probably bottleneck it, but I don't know. Thanks for any help you can give, and sorry its a novel, I just wanted to be thorough and explain the whole situation.

The FX 6300 is a good budget processor... and you dont really NEED an SSD or something above 7200 rpm, but it would make things like load time much faster so think about getting one of those... I've installed a 6300 on a friends computer and it runs pretty well.. and when game's start using more cores the 6300 will have a huge advantage over a lot of the quad core processors... So, if it were up to me and i only had like 100$ to spend i would get the 6300... or you could spend a little bit more and get an 8320 which is a bit better.. although it wouldnt change that much when playing ghost's

If you can get your hands on an AMD Phenom II X4 955/965 for a good price, then do so. If not, the FX6300 will be a nice bump up, if you can afford an FX8320 or FX8350, go for them instead. They are significantly better than the FX6300. I didn't bother to read your massive paragraph, but I will answer that an 7200rpm is more than enough for gaming.

Ok so if I get a 6300 and an SSD I shouldn't have any performance issues playing ghosts or bf4 or crysis 3 right? I just don't want to spend $350+ just to have to scrap my board and processor anyway. My motherboard only supports sata 2, is that enough to see a performance boost from an SSD?
