I want to save myself $15 by not buying a Optical Drive on my new build and put it toward a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU fan, but I wanted to know if I can take a DVD reader from my Dell Optiplex 755 and put it in my new build to save me the money?

As long as the new system has the same interface (SATA or PATA IDE), yes.

Yep, for the most part Optical drives are nearly universal.

Have a look at the back of the drive and check that it's SATA. PATA/EIDE won't work in your new build.

Depends if the drive is SATA, open up the dell and check. Most modern computers use SATA and I am going to assume that you will be using that in your build.

As long as you don't own the USFF or the SFF 755 , yes it can be used.
