will upgrading cpu improve gaming ?

hi, when i play gta 4 it usually runs around 30-40 fps on medium settings,i have a geforce gtx 560 and a amd athlon x4 640 cpu, im gonna upgrade to a amd fx-6300 soon, will this improve my fps?

yes it would be a decent improvement, even more if you overclock it. If you don't want to overclock, get the 6350, or even 8320

I would suggest getting an 8320, it has great overlocking abillity and its only like 20$ more at the moment, and yes it will improve fps as whitesnake said. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009O7YU56/?tag=pcpapi-20

yeah, i picked one up from newegg right before the newyear for my cousin's new build for 130.. it runs great, i would recommend it for any budget build/ cheaper upgrade it has great overclocking capability, and when games start to use more than 4 cores, it will definatly give it an edge.

cause i only plan to play games like gta 4, skyrim, games that came out around the past 4-5 years or so

Yes, an 8320 is better than a 6300, for the 20$ difference i would definitely pick up the 8 core vs the 6.

GTA IV hovers around that regardless of what you play it on. It's a terrible console port, but in other games you would see a noticeable performance increase.

I managed to get the Microcenter black friday week special of $100 for an FX 8320 and still got the motherboard discount. Sadly funds were low, so had to settle on the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 for motherboard. Fortunately, this was not for my main rig, but for just an extra WoW rig. :lol:
