Well im looking to buying a intel i5 4760k
i have a 970A-DS3P gigabytpe mother board so is it compatible and if it isnt what kind of motherboard is Thank you

No that motherboard is not compatible. You need something like the gigabyte z87x-ud3h.

The following chipsets will support that chip:

H81, B85, Q85, Q87, H87, AND Z87. It requires an LGA1150 socket, so there is no way the 970A (AMD motherboard) will support that chip..

Since that CPU has an unlocked multiplier, you're better off using a Z87 motherboard as mentioned above to take advantage of the overclockability of that chip.
