Hello Folks, looking for some advice on an issue i've been struggling to win for 2 days straight.
You may of heard of this issue on this or other websites, however, either the authors of the threads have fixed the problem, ... or not!
I've just purchased a new RIG, built it and being the excited child I was, restarted through the driver updates without ever turning the PC fully off. It runs lovely, no issues whatsoever. Then I wanted to go to bed.
My PC won't turn off!?, for whatever reason. Shutting down through the startmenu, the front panel power button, even the motherboards own "Start" button doesn't work. You can see and hear my SSD and HDD power/spin down, including all my peripherals (Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor), but the fans on everything still turn, and the PC remains on.
Once you boot the PC through the power button, there's no error, no nothing - it assumes it's done nothing wrong!
The only way to switch it off is by using the PSU, which sucks. Normally i'd let this slide and live with it, but it's an expensive machine and i'd much rather have the majority of it up and running. Also with things like firmware for my SSD, i'm frightened it'll try to turn off the PC and freeze during shutdown, and possibly brick my SSD.
The list of experiments i've tried:
Uninstall Intel IRST
Uninstall ROG Ramdisk
Clean Wipe (Windows 8.1, also tried rebooting straight after wipe, no luck)
Installing only the essentials
Flashed to the newest BIOS (1301)
Cleared CMOS
Editing this BIOS Setting (Advanced\ APM > ErP Ready > set "Enabled (S4 + S5)" )
Altering BIOS Settings to disallow components to Idle
Attempted to find the ieee 1394 bus controller to disable power management options (Apparently Maximus doesn't use Firewire, who knew)
All Drivers and Windows Updates upto date.
Created a command prompt shortcut to Shutdown the machine, as well as a free programme called AutoShutDown
Can't really remember what else i've done, I believe i've ran out of Googling options, and resorted to actually asking experts!
The only things I believe I haven't tried is stripping the processor, i've stripped and tested the Memory and Graphics card and it still won't turn off. I can run games, stress test, everything. Just the damn thing won't turn off.
My PC Specs are:
Windows 8.1 (Using StarDock)
ASUS Rog Maximus IV Hero
i7-4770k (h80i cooling)
Corsair DDR3 Vengeance (9-9-9-24)
MSI 780 GTX
Samsung 840 EVO SSD
Western Digital 1TB Caviar
Corsair Obsidian 650D
I'd wholeheartedly appreciate some help, i'm completely out of options other than sending the damn mobo back. Which I don't even know if that would solve it!
Thanks a lot <3
