Intel i7-4770k temps running high

My 4770k is at stock settings and I am using the stock heatsync that came with the cpu.
My idle Temps are around 70-80c and when I run League of Legends or any other game for that matter it is jumping to 90c+.
I just re-applied thermal paste and re-seated the heatsync and am still getting the same results.
Are these temps too high? I have a feeling they are :(
Thanks!

Solution
Yes!
The temps are HIGH.

The idle temp should be around 40c and under load should be around 70c MAX.

Check if you Heatsink fan is spinning.
It might be the case that the heatsink is unable to make a tight contact with the CPU.
It happened once on one of my ancient computers.

Try keeping the case horizontal and booting the computer. (that's what I did and my temps actually got down a little)

Yes, yes they are. Did you clean the dust out of your heatsink while you were there? Might be an airflow problem. See if you can do something about that first, if no change, time for a better cooler.

Not necessarily true, or accurate. I've had stock coolers fail in a week. Not all are created equal.

Hmm..
But still, I wouldn't recommend directly buying a new one.
Get it checked by someone first. What if you buy a new one and the problem persist?

Are you certain that the 4770k is actually running at stock speed (3500) under load? If you are certain you have put the heatsink\fan on correctly, can you put it under load and run something like CPU-Z to confirm?

Hey everyone thank you for the quick and helpful responses!
I re-seated the heatsync yet again (the four posts keep popping out).
Played a game of League again to test it and the highest temps were 75c/77c/75c/74c
Good improvement from the ~90+ during games!
How do these temps sound?

shouldn't be a airflow problem when his idle temps is that high, intel stock cooler should also be able to handle light gaming, such as league of legends.

@OP I bet the heatsink isn't putted on correctly, try to set it on again.

Indeed it's way better than what you first got those temperatures were just dangerous and could be harmful.

Those temps are still high but it's common for the stock cooler.
The temperatures are atleast not dangerous anymore

Good luck gaming!

Don't forget to pick a solution :p

still sound a little bit high, are there any programs running in the back? Like CPU-heavy applications?
Try to reapply the CPU thermal paste.

Those stock coolers are crap. Reports have it they often do not even sit on flatly because of those push pins. There is no need to pay a fortune on a new cooler. There are cheap aftermarket coolers for like $15 out there that outclass the stock cooler hands down. I would never hesitate to invest that money.

All right, after this update, it's very much clear that your stock cooler is just not doing it's job.
Buy a new cooler. That seems to be the only solution.

Recommendations: Cooler Master Hyper 212+

Forking out $40 for a cooler is a waste of money (unless you plan on overclocking and believe your overclocked performance is free even though you pay for better cooler, Z87 chipset, K CPU). Beating the stock cooler is not a hard task. This one here will do nicely for a quarter of the cost.

Well, I do have a Hyper 212+, not the EVO. I just haven't slapped it on yet. I use to have it on my old AMD before I upgraded. Looks like its time to put that sucker back on.
