Hello,

I have recently purchased a gtx 780 windforce oc for my new pc build. it plays league of legends fine but there is small amounts of screen tearing. lol is capped at 60 fps with vsync on but it works fine. when i go to play tomb raider it works fine on normal but when i turn it up to ultimate ( the highest setting) i get really bad screen tearing. that is with the in game vsync set to double buffer and changing it to triple or off does nothing. i can also play skyrim on the highest setting with no screen tearing at all. so it looks like that it just tomb raider and lol. i dont ahve any other games to try it with. when i set tomb raider to have vsync on with half refresh rate of the monitor ( the monitor is 60 hrz running at 1600x900 ) have tried to change the graphic card drivers to the latest then reverted them back to the ones on the cd

my set up is :

Cpu - 4670k
Gpu - gigabyte gtx 780 windforce oc
Psu - corsair cx 750m
ram - gskill ripjaw 8gb 2133

Currently using a vga cable on a dvi adapter as it is all i have, will try a dvi cable when i get home today.

GTX 780 is overkill for your monitor resolution. In Tomb Raider disable Tressfx because it kills Nvidia framerates. That game is known for bad screen tearing. You should always use triple buffering if you have vsync enabled by the way.

a 120hz (or a 1440p) should make it stretch its legs

would i still get good fps running a monitor at 2560×1440 and would this solve the screen tearing or would a 1980 x 1080 monitor work just as well. the two im looking at are 27"

If you want to confidently max or ultra demanding games with good framerates, then 1080p.
