I have a bit of a strange network topology. This is home/ office setup as we live upstairs.

Basically with have cable internet going into a switch, one port of the switch then goes up to a wireless AP which has one Ethernet out which I connect to my laptop.

Downstairs we have 15 computers on fixed IPs. Upstairs my wired laptop does not use a fixed IP and the other wireless devices (phones etc, also do not use fixed IPs).

Everything can access the internet fine, however the problem comes when I want to share files. I can share files no problem on the wired network downstairs. and all the devices upstairs connected to the AP can share files no problems.

What I'm trying to do however is be able to share some files between the upstairs and downstairs networks without having to physically bring my laptop downstairs (my temporary solution is to use Teamviewer remote control software and simply use the build in file transfer feature, problem is that file size is limited and transfer is slow).

So far, I've checked that my laptop is on the same workgroup and it is. Couldn't see the shared files on either the laptop or my computers downstairs.

I've tried using a fixed IP in the same address range, which didn't work either.

I've checked the AP admin menu and couldn't see any options that might explain how to do this.

So to sum up:
INTERNET >> SWITCH >>> COMPUTERS + AP

AP >> Laptop (can be wired or wireless) + other wireless devices

The networks are linked with the AP..

Any suggestions on how i could make file sharing work.

Thanks

our downstairs network is running:

210.224.20.XX
subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 210.224.20.1

for example..
If I set the router to an unused address
say: 210.224.20.200
subnet: same as above

would that work?

When I tried that for some reason it set the gateway IP to:
210.224.20.1

which caused it to stop working due to the conflict with the existing gateway IP.

can you post your ipconfig info for the upstairs laptop?
isnt the matter for being in the same homegroup nor the matter of setting the same gateway as the downstairs.
normally, APs, unless configured, usually plays around in a different network as the router.
