Hello,

I recently upgraded most of the components in my PC as the motherboard went on my last one. On this build I cannot get anything displayed using my graphics card and i don't think it is being detected whatsoever.

When my monitor is hooked up through my graphics card I get nothing displayed. If I hook it up through the mobo then go to device manager I do not seeing anything displayed in the display adaptors apart from the Intel graphics. I was convinced my GPU was the problem but today i tried it in another PC and it worked just fine!

This is the setup:

Asus Z87-A mobo
Intel i5 4670
Corsair 650w
nVidia GT 440
120gb Kingston SSD
Windows 8.1 Pro

I did run the motherboard driver disk and install the various drivers. However when i try to install the nVidia driver with the GPU plugged in but monitor using integrated graphics, then i cannot proceed past the first step because "compatible hardware cannot be found".

I do plan to upgrade the GPU in the next week or so but would like to solve this problem first as it may be the mobo?

I also tried the GPU in both of the PCIE 3.0 slots and both had the same result.

I have been advised to upgrade the BIOS but know that this can potentially break things so id like to know if there is anything else I can try before doing this. You can see at the link below that there has been a number of BIOS updates, one of which 'enhances PCIE 3.0 compatibility', do you think this may be what i need? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87A/#support

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Max

Upgrading the BIOS isn't dangerous. Just don't power off the computer during the update.
I would give that a go before anything else.
