I'm planning to gradually upgrade my *very* old PC. Planning to run games with high/med settings at 768p.

AMD Athlon X2 7750 BE
Asus M3A78
9600GT
Acbel 450W PSU

****

So, 1st going for a new GPU, I'm thinking of Leadtek / Zotac GTX 760. Or the a bit cheaper 7870 card.

2nd. The CPU, which I couldnt make my mind yet.

Either going for FX or FM2+.

FX6300 / new kaveri will be priced around Haswell's i3 in my country. But rumors saying the FX series will end soon being replaced by FM2+. Should I still go for FX or wait for FM2+?

3rd. PSU, 450W would probably be enough right? Not OC-ing.

You will probably want to upgrade you MOBO as putting higher end GPU's on cheap boards isn't a great idea. Sticking with the FX range of CPU's is fine. But i do recommend that you go for at least a 500W PSU as the requirements for a 760 are a 500W minimum PSU.

Yes, I will upgrade both CPU and Mobo. would a 760 be a bit overkill for 768p? I would like to save every penny if I could :lol:

The GTX 760 would be bottlenecked with the FM2+ APU. If you're going for an APU then there are 2 uses:
1| using APU (onboard GPU) alone
or
2| going dual graphics setup

1 is possible if you're sticking to old games and on that resolution. Going any higher in resolution would warrant a more beefier GPU/CPU combo.

2 is possible but with reviews shown here on Tom's and the tech yet in its infant stages I wouldn't place all my eggs in that basket.

i'm only considering FM2+ since rumors saying AM3+ would end being replaced by FM2+. Would there be much different if I opt for i3 instead of FX?

I would first upgrade the CPU / Motherboard as you are not going to experience much benefit upgrading the graphics card on your current system, I went down that route and put a GTX 570 with an Athlon X2. I would go with the FX 6300 rather than FM series as i think youll get your moneys worth out of it. Then upgrade your GPU

ah man, really? was thinking of GPU first so that I can play some of the latest games before have enough fund to buy cpu & mobo & ram & psu. :heink:
