I am using 7870xt gpu which has a DVI-I slot and my monitor has a DVI-D Slot. I am currently using DVI-I to VGA on my monitor so i am wondering if DVI-I to DVI-D will make the quality better.

More about : make picture quality monitor

worst case it'll be exactly the same, best case it'll be a bit cleaner. your computer is digital, and your monitor is digital, so converting the signal to analog (VGA) for all of 6 feet is pointless unless you're running it into an HDMI TV.

DVI to DVI is native, and less susceptible to noise or cable quality. leave the VGA port for cases where it's the only solution (like connecting to a TV)

depends on how old the monitor is. for old monitors the picture quality is way better when using dvi to dvi. for new ones the quality is just as good on vga too.

Well i have a Sony MFM-HT75W Monitor and might be old but not sure... I got it from my brother and i think it's quiet a good monitor as he got it for £20 and gave it to me for free :)  If it is an old monitor/tv and it's worth buying the dvi to dvi cable then i will get one.

But if it won't make a difference with my GPU then i will probably leave it and just get a HDMI to DVI-D for my PS3 as i am wanting to connect my PS3 for better quality as it looks crap without HDMI.

well, connect the hdmi to dvi to the pc, the graphics card has a hdmi too (to see if it will make a difference)

hdmi -> dvi will look exactly the same as dvi -> dvi.

Oops sorry for late reply. Haven't been on here for a long time. Well i didn't notice much difference on the PC but it does sort of seem like the DVI to HDMI / DVI makes the monitor look abit better but nothing too noticable.

I wanted to do this as i thought it may make gaming better and I will be able to see better but it's sort of the same but it might be because of my monitor. But atleast i have my ps3 on HD :D  quality sucks without it.
