Hello all,

I just had a quick question. I'm setting up a new build and loading up all of the software now before I OC the CPU. However, in the future I may want to install additional games or software. I had read in a few different places that you should not try to install programs onto a computer that is OC'd - but I wasn't sure if this applied to just the initial system setup or for any program(s) you try to install.

My UEFI allows for up to 3 profiles. Would it be a good idea to have one profile that has the CPU OC'd and then switch to the secondary profile which is not OC'd when I want to install programs or make system changes?

The thing about overclocking is that when you go too far you stress the cpu too much and corrupt its internal data. You should really run proven stress tests such as the prime 95 and furmark for an extended period (up to 24hrs or longer if you feel the need)If you can run these without error (prime 95 will throw up any errors it encounters) then your system is stable. You can run and/or install any application on a stable system.

Not sure where you heard that, but it really isn't true. A proper, stable overclock is just as stable as a stock system and should have zero negative effects on installing programs.
