Hello.
I have a HP Probook 6560b with US keyboard (part 641180-001) that some keys stopped working (ex: Q, W, E, I, O, Z, X, M,... just random keys in top and bottom Letter Lines, and the arrow keys also)
As i live in Portugal, i ordered a new PT keyboard (part 641180-131).
With the new keyboard i have exactly 2 collums of keys not working

VB

Every other key seems to work fine.
Tried rubbing the connections on the board and on the keyboard with an ear swab and no luck
Already sent the keyboard back to get a replacement. but can it be from the motherboard?

It's really hard to tell... Seems like you've done everything right (checking and cleaning the connections on the board).

It's possible you got 2 defective keyboards in a row.

But just in case, I would check for a BIOS update.

already tried that also :( hope its the new keyboard that was defective.
if it was the same keys not working i was 99% sure it was the board. but its not the same keys.
But, because they are diferent Keyboard regions (old was US and new is PT europe) im still concerned about the board. Or the region doesnt affect keyboard wiring layout?

My guess would be the region doesn't affect the keyboard. The difference between a US and Portuguese keyboard must be really minor because they use similar characters. I mean by that, there's not much difference between most European countries they pretty much all use a similar alphabet, aside from a few different accents or characters maybe but that shouldn't affect the keyboard functionality like keys not working at all. Russian cyrilic or Asian and Arabic keyboards must be really different though so I would have more doubts if you'd be replacing this.

All I know is that I replaced a French keyboard with a US keyboard on a laptop once and didn't have any problem after.

I'm having the exact same problem with the the same keys in the same positions with my HP Envy Touch-smart 15 but its a UK keyboard.

One day when I was using it (was 3 months old) the power cut out, and it would not turn on, it was sent back for repair and they replaced the motherboard as it was faulty. Before it went in for repair I never had any problems with my keys! Got it back and these specific keys would not work, then they started to work again (when one worked they all worked) and then stopped and again and continued doing this intermittently until eventually they did not work at all. Laptop was returned again for repair. I got it back at the beginning of this week and they had replaced the keyboard.....worked perfectly.. for a couple of hours and then guess whats started happening again!!!!
I'm personally convinced its the motherboard!

I had exactly the same thing happen on a different computer. I had to remove the keyboard to have access to the HDD (note to self, do not buy ASUS again), after which I got precisely the same thing happen as the original post. I was very careful in both removing and re-installing the keyboard.
I would guess something went wrong when removing/installing the keyboard.
