I/O error is input/output error. That could mean the drive is dead. Have you tried taking the drive out and hooking it up to another computer to see if you can work with it there?

Yea It comes on and reads in devices it just doesn't recognize it in Computer. Tried everything, new cable, other computer, etc. Just looking to get my stuff off of it so i can reformat it with the WD tool that I have. Don't know how to recover my info. Guess that's what I should have asked.

Hi

Any luck with this problem, as even myself facing same situation. Just curious on did you get any data out from that and what happened.

My disk - external HDD my passport essential 1 tb
Showing in Windows Vist Home edition OS as - Not intialized, trying initialize getting error as "I/O Error"
Showing in WD Smartware as - No writeable partition found

While connecting to the laptop the light blinks and I hear a beep sound after a frequent interval and after some time it's quite

all my photos are in this. How do I recover any suggestions please.
Regards
Ragava
