Prewired Home question

The ethernet cables for the house are located in the basement is it possible for me to have my modem and router in the upstairs then plug oneof the router ports into the prewired outlet/jack and place a switch in the basement hooked up to the prewire from the router room? I hope that made sense....

Without a full map/drawing of where all the cables go, it is impossible to say.

Yes, just put a cable into one of the normal lan ports and the other end in to your switch.

The cable from the lan port is a straight through and the jack in the wall is straight through. So technically I should be able to go to the basement which has the cable from the jack upstairs hanging and plug that right into the switch correct?

What is the modem connected to on the outboard side?

Coax from cable company then out to router.

Modem -> router -> switch -> devices should work.

That is (mostly) how my house is wired, and how I'm wiring my other house.
