Hey guys,

I picked up a Belkin n300 router to use as an access point on my college network. I'm trying to use it as an access point for our townhouse. I know the usual deal with configuring routers as access points, disabling the DHCP server and connecting the ethernet to the main network into a LAN port.

I've been able to plug this belkin n300 into the school via a LAN port, and connect other devices into the remaining LAN ports to get flawless internet. The issue is that none of those devices will work wirelessly. They are all able to connect wirelessly seemingly perfect, getting an IP address and everything, appearing ready to go. However, when you try to go to a website, it just hangs before saying it can't reach the page. I'm really struggling to figure out what the issue is. Any advice?

How did you manage to get a static IP address for your Belkin on a school network? Actually, that is probably the issue -- that you cannot and you need to in order to set up your AP. The school DHCP server is giving additional addresses to the other wired devices on the Belkin as if you had a switch there but won't work with the radio to assign IP addresses properly unless the AP has a static address.

The answer is to use the Belkin as a router if your network allows them and use a different network address for your own internal LAN that is distinct from the WAN (school LAN).
