OK, so I have a LG Bluray burner, not sure the exact model number (can get it if you need it), and recently I started to get this message....

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've looked around and no one seems to have a good answer when I Google that message. Here are some details...

1. I only get the msg when I try opening the drive in my computer.
2. I've tried a dvd and a music cd, same message.
3. When I open windows media player, I can open the disk and they play just fine.
4. I can click on the the drive in the sidebar, and it will open and play the disk, but not in my computer.
5. I have autoplay turned off.
6. I have Nero 12 installed. I recently installed and used Handbrake, and it was sometime after that that this started. In fact, I noticed the problem because I couldn't get the disk to open in Handbrake. It would appear as a source, but wouldn't open. However, now it opens, and I can rip my disk. But I still get the error if I try to open in my computer.
7. I am using Windows 7 pro, 64 bit.
8. I have not updated firmware, but I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling. Same problem.

That's about all I can think of. Anyone else have this? Anyone have an idea what I need to do? Aside from possible drive failure (doubtful since everything still seems to work mechanically), I would have to assume this is some from kind of recent software installed.

Thanks for any input,
MM

This could be a registry problem. You could try a restore point from before you installed handbrake. Even though it didn't occur exactly when you installed it does sort of make sense since as a program it gained access to your drive. DVD burning software sometimes causes similar problems apparently.
