Yes it will work, with todays prices, if mobo and CPU will take higher would go that route as prices will prob continue to rise

Yes it definitely is. Recent benchmarks show that there is little difference, like 5% between 1333Mhz or super high-end 2133Mhz modules. So it's kind of a waste to overspend on expensive RAM. Your extra dollars will be better spent on a SSD, or a better GPU or CPU.
RAM is one of the exception where I'd rather go for quantity than quality. For instance, I'd rather have 8GB at 1333Mhz instead of 4GB at 2133Mhz.
