GPU
I am considering the PowerColor AX7870 2GBD5-2DHV4E/OC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0

Solution
OK, for gaming 1600 is sufficient - would suggest 1866 or better with Haswell if it meets the budget as Haswell likes faster DRAM - as far as how much 8GB will suffice, if you plan to record while gaming or do much else with the system i.e. multi-tasking, video, imaging, etc might look to 16GB if the budget fits, I'd suggest the GSkill Tridents or Snipers in 1866/8 or 9 or 2133/9 and in 2x4GB for 8GB or 2x8GB for 16GB total

I went with the G-Skill Tridents 2x8gb standard speed is set to cl9 @ 1333Mhz, but I over clock them to Cl10 @ 2400 Mhz.
Everything works nice. Thanks Tradesman1
