Decided to give in and buy a new PSU for my fiancée's PC. Thought I'd ask here for advice since the last time I bought one it turned out not powerful enough to run the GPU at higher load.

Mobo: Asus H67-M LE Series.
CPU: Intel i5 2500k.
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7870.

The GPU requires a 6pin and 8pin PCI-E, and it's hard to find a PSU with that for my budget. The installation guide says both have to be plugged in, and it also says not to use any converters, is this to cover their a** and it's actually perfectly fine, or is it really not a good idea?

Solution
Yeah, it's good. I wanted to tell you about that one too, but it's on Pre-order.

Battler found a good deal, but you can't add a second GPU because your motherboard doesn't have a slot for it. For a single HD 7870 you're fine with a 550W PSU if it's good quality and has at least 28A. All the PSUs in this thread so far exceed that and they're better than the Artic, no worries.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestions, really appreciated.
My own PC still has the bad PSU (Artic LITE 550W ATX), so far it hasn't given me any issues like power surge warnings yet, even at high loads. It probably will, so I'll need a new one as well.
The ones you suggested look great but are at the top of my budget.
I saw this one XFX PRO 550W P1-550S-XXB9 and wondered if it was any good?

+1, XFX are made by SeaSonic which personally means to me that they are high quality PSUs! This also is compatible with your build, maybe not your budget though.
