Upgraded to an i5 3570k, still getting fps drops on Tomb Raider with my HD 7850

Okay, I'm having this problem with a particular game, Tomb Raider. Back when I had my i3 I was having these same problems in the same area. People told me it was my CPU. So I upgraded to an i5 3570k.

BF3 multiplayer runs 10 times better and so does Crysis 3. But when in Tomb Raider on high settings, I'm still getting drops in the same area. Albeit not as severe as on the i3, but I'm still getting drops.

It's the area with all the rain. The whole rest of the game runs at a smooth 60fps on high settings. But in this area, the fps will drop into the 50's a little bit.

GPU usage is only 66% and CPU usage is only about 70%, so is the game just unoptimized?

have you tried uninstalling, defrag the HDD, and re isntalling?

Defragging the HDD isn't going to do anything. Sounds like there is an issue with that particular area is all. I'm not familiar with the area, but sounds like if the pc is rendering all the water falling(possibly on surfaces and puddles as well?) it just might not be able to do it well/fast enough to maintain 60fps. If it's in the 50's, that's not even worth worrying about.

Yes, but Crysis 3 has much more intense rain and maintains a constant 60fps in that area.

They run on completely different engines so you can't really compare them, AC4 will definitely drop to the 50's during rain and storms too

I'd agree with this just being an issue with the optimization of the game in that one area
