Hi Tom's Hardware Community! Thank you, first of all for taking the time to look over problems of noobs like myself!

Getting to the issue at hand, every since a power surge ( which my old surge protector declined to protect me from ) my computer has been constantly restarting specifically during gaming.

To elaborate on the conditions of the restart

1) There are no blue screens
2) It will simply restart and keep trying to reboot itself to no avail
3) Only during gaming ( which to me may suggest RAM stress being the cause )

At times it will have problems starting itself and go into the "endless loop" or groundhog day itself into rebooting over and over without any success.

Here is what I have tried so far -

1) Replaced the Power supply with a brand new one which did not fix the problem.
2) Removed my Graphics card and ran on the Intel Graphics of my processor which still resulted in restarts
3) Restarted the CMOS 2x ( This is where I am now. )
4) Removed 1 stick of 4GB Ram which was identified as faulty.

We had a fresh restart on the CMOS and removed a stick of RAM and I was able to play games for a couple hours on end ( Starcraft 2 , Diablo 3 , League, and a stream all at once to stress it ) which is amazing for me and we thought it was over since there were no restarts.

To isolate the issue, we re-input the RAM stick we thought was faulty and lo and behold the computer automatically had problems starting itself properly. But we did NOT restart the CMOS after this, we simply removed it.

It began to restart itself constantly again.

This is where I am at my wit's end and why I have this post listed under motherboard, which I now believe to be the issue.

It has started restarting again and going into the endless loop and I am wondering if we should of reset the CMOS once more after inserting the faulty RAM stick in the computer to absolve ourselves of this issue OR if it just the motherboard altogether?

I believe it to be the motherboard being partially damaged ( if that is possible ) due to the power outage.

Any programs I can download to isolate and solve the issue or any input whatsover is GREATLY appreciated and I will be HAWKING this thread.

Thanks,

Nevermynd

Solution
Download memtest86, Prime95 and MSI Kombustor.

memtest86 will let you test the RAM. 5 passes per stick. Try 1 stick, in all the sockets. Try 2nd stick in all the sockets. Note which stick and socket works. Try 2 of them.

Prime 95 - CPU stress test. Stress the CPU for couple of hours. Monitor the temperatures with something like CoreTemp or CPUZ.

MSI Kombustor - GPU stress. Stress for few hours. Keep track of the temps. Use GPUZ or something.

Bring back the results, so we may advice you further.

We randomly removed it just to see if it was the problem and things were fine, it seemed to be the issue once we put it in again it just restarted.

We wanted to really isolate it as the problem but now my computer is still restarting but what I am wondering what step I should take now or what else could be the issue?
