I'm trying to hook my computer up through an Ethernet cable through my phone line in order to get faster internet (in stead of through WiFi). Everything material is set up properly; there is even a green light and an orange blinking light where the Ethernet cable is plugged into, So i figured it was a software issue. Also, when i plugged in the Ethernet cable, there is supposed to be something like Local Area Network in the Network and Sharing center, but it is not there. It just has the WiFi I'm currently connected to.

My specs are:
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor
Installed Memory (RAM): 16.0GB
System Type: Windows 7 64-bit Operating System

If anyone can tell me what I need (such as a driver or something) to do to get this working, that would be lovely. Also, if you need any other info, feel free to ask. Thanks

Disable your WiFi adapter in your device manager, its most likely defaulting to that, I had a similar issue with mine since i have a WiFi card in my rig I had to disable it to ensure I was getting my internet directly through the Ethernet cable.

Okay, i tried that and it did not work. Do I need a special Ethernet Controller or something because the only Network Adapters I have currently are the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter and TP-LINK 450Mbps Wireless N Adapter.

P.S. I think it might be helpful to know that this is a custom-built computer.

Nevermind, I figured it out. As it turns out, it was a stupid move on my part. The Gigabyte Motherboard for my computer came with a CD and all i had to do was install the Ethernet controller... I don't know why i didn't try that before. Anyways, thanks for your help!
