If you are eliminating Ubuntu for 8, no comment, you may want to open your live ubuntu dvd you used for the install and use gparted to format the drive NTFS. Or another partitioner, there are several available. I'm surprised your win8 install doesn't do it for you. Or you could in Ubuntu shrink the partition it's on to make room for win8 bearing in mind win8 will erase the ubuntu launcher even though it's still there.

I have tried that. I get the same response when I try to instal Windows 7, no idea what is up. Any more suggestions?

Keep in mind I have no dvd drive. I have the lenovo Y500 with 650m SLI. I can only do a USB Install. I have used a program to copy my windows 7 and my windows 8 (after formatting) on to a USB.

It let's me install ubuntu. Sorry for the long wait. My usb got corrupted. Had to buy a new one.

By the way, before this all happened I was able to get into the partition management function in the windows installer, I chose to delete all partitions. It was taking forever so I forced shut down the computer. Not sure if that helps are not! BTW: I have a built in 16GB SSD!
