NTLDR missing and Conduit search?

Well here's a crazy sounding problem. Last week I had Conduit search take over my browser, but after running a malware remover (which found around 10 PUPS) I got the browser back to normal. But when the PC rebooted to remove the viruses it displayed the "NTLDR missing" error.

I found a bootable CD fix which got it running again, but only with the program running on every startup. Anyway, today I had Conduit hijack my browser, but this time it was harder to get rid of. I scanned for malware and more PUPS were found, and again on reboot it shows the NTLDR error.

Running the CD fixed it, but why is this happening, and are these two things even related? The only thing new on the PC is Nero 14, which I just purchased, and the first error happened the night I installed it.

Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!! :)

When you download apps you need to watch whats being installed conduit is a nasty bastard why not try a system restore... reboot your pc tap f 8 key it will give you options of dates to restore you pc restore to a early date before the conduit episode happen and it should run ok always watch whats being installed never click click ok ok next next read the terms of the software.. Also did you try Microsoft security E ....

whats happening is that you are not completely getting rid on conduit. have a look at these links.

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-conduit-apps-search-and-toolbar/

http://www.techsupportall.com/how-to-remove-conduit-search/

as you can see,its more than just running a malware removal program. if you get no results from these fixes post back and we can start the removal process using other methods. not meaning any disrespect but using mse to get rid of a virus is kinda like peeing on a fire to put it out.mse is one of the last avs i would use.avast is one of the top rated avs and works very well.

If all else fails and Conduit still takes over the browser, it's because it changed the target of the Desktop shortcut. Instead of just opening the browser, the amendment takes you straight to a specific site using the default browser. re-target that shortcut and you get your homepage back. Use the browser's View>Toolbars menu (tough if you use Chrome) to untick any toolbars you don't want to see.

Use regedit to comb through LOCAL_MACHINE>Software and more importantly, CURRENT_USER>Software to remove any reference to Conduit then run a Registry wide search from the Find menu to search for any traces.

Most Malware scans won't find this kind of hijack becauise they regard your search engine as a personal choice thing and not something they should delete. HijackThis from Trend Micro is still good at highlighting this and you then choose what to remove.

As to the missing NTLDR, I still believe Windows updates help to cause this and it's best fixed with a Linux LiveCD and a copy of the loader and other files stored on a flash drive. Copy from there into the root of C: using the Linux system and it's fixed. You need NTDETECT, io.sys, config.sys and BOOT.INI sometimes as well as the NT Loader.

I searched the regedit and I couldn't anything to do with conduit, maybe the malware scan (It was Malwarebytes) got rid of it? I'll run a hijack this scan and see what happens.

Also, do you have link to where I could get those files, or is it something that just requires a Google search?

As far as windows updates, I have them set to manual and didn't update the night I got the error.

EDIT: I ran hijack this and read through the list, I didn't see anything to do with conduit.

Another EDIT: I ran ComboFix to see what it could find, and during the scan it displayed the "blue screen of death" with a BAD_POOL_HEADER error. What is this?

I tried all things shown in those links, but I can't find any trace of conduit. I think malwarebytes removed the "easy to find" parts.

Is it possible to post an actual file? Since I don't know, I'll just post a copy and paste.
