Currently running a laptop, and I've had this suggested to me. I'd also be looking at a wireless card and internal capture card.
A bit clueless with brands and the specifics (I've got a broad general IT knowledge, but never built from scratch).
All suggestions welcome!

That looks like a pretty solid build to me. As for the capture card I would not personally recommend it. With all the hardware you just listed, fraps will work just fine if you dump into one of those hdds or maybe add another one just for video dump. As for the wireless card, I have personally found the external USB adapters work great. The can handle more bandwidth than most ISP can provide. As for the brand, I would suggest getting one that matches up with your router brand. I have a netgear router and adapter and they work fine for my 25 Mb/s connection.

Thanks, that's handy to know. I would use the capture card for console stuff though. I currently have an external Hauppage HD PVR but the USB connection doesn't stream in real time, which would make my life a lot easier when adding audio and video.

I can easily find and install one myself, It's just compatibility that I need to keep in mind.

as far as compatibility, as long as it's PCIe then you're good to go. All PCIe are backwards/forwards compatible. If you have plain old PCIe 2.0 slots on your board then you can still get a PCIe 3.0 card, if there is such a thing. I have heard that a lot of people use USB recorders, not sure if that is a viable option for you, nor am I sure how well they work. If you're using the USB recorders the only issue I could foresee is, if for whatever reason, its a windows version requirement, but most of the time those issues can be fixed with freshly downloaded software versions.

I did find some good reviews for Black Magic internal recording cards that use a single PCIe slot which I think your motherboard has 3 if I remember right.

Yeah, the black magic is one of the ones I looked at. The external USB ones have too slow of a transfer rate, so you can't play it through your PC in real time, you need to play and record through seperate monitors. It's just an unnecessary hassle.
