So today my computer just randomly shut down and wont boot up again. I am thinking it is my power supply but I thought I would ask just to make sure.

There is a power button on my motherboard that is lit, and sometimes if I hit the power button the lights will briefly turn on in the computer for about a second, but nothing will boot up or sound like it is going to boot up.

So even though it seems like there is some power going to the motherboard I am wondering if my PSU is just shot or is it my motherboard?

I've had the same problem. Try checking you cpu heatsink connection to your motherboard and then try reinstalling you thermal paste. If that doesnt work then take your cpu out and put it back in

The computer was home built. The PSU is a Corsair tx650 Watt, it is about 4 or 5 years old. The motherboard is a gigabyte ga-z77x-ud3h with an intel i5 and a nvidia gtx275. The motherboard and processor are the newest components, they are no more than 2 years old every thing else is left over and a couple years older than that.

If I turn off the switch on the back of the PSU, then turn it back on, then hit the power button on the front of the computer the lights that are hooked up to the fans in the case will turn on for a second but nothing will boot. However there is a power button on the motherboard that will light up and will stay lit.
