So I am building a new PC and wanted to see if I could transfer the Hard Drive from my old PC and the data on the hard drive to the new one. I am planning on using Windows 8 on my new PC, but my current one is Windows 7. I would like to transfer all the data stored on my hard drive to the new PC. Is this possible? What would be able to be transferred and how would I go about doing this?

In the new system I am building there will be a new hard drive and OS. Could I transfer the contents of my current drive to the new one then delete everything on the current drive and use it like a new drive?

Thanks for any replies

I would suggest leaving that HDD out until after you install the OS, then install it and you will have to format it first in disc management. Then once it's recognized you could either copy paste then delete all the files or move them from one HDD to the other. Switching between windows 7 and 8 shouldn't matter for your files except all of the old OS ones which I wouldn't be transferring anyway.
