The primary use of the pc as stated above will be for web design and development, i work primarily with photoshop, indesign, and illustrator for the design and my current pc can get a little slow when working on projects. I also work on medium-large end sites and find myself editing large files of code. When i save them to my current computer it can take some time to load through notepad++.

For the new build i am looking for a smaller pc ( currently have a ATX Full Tower ) i travel a decent amount, about every 2-3 months i am in a new location so lugging my current pc around can be a bit of a pain not to mention the amount of space it takes up in my car. I am also looking to build a quite pc.

I i will be providing two separate partial builds of parts that i have selected so far based on ratings that i have found by searching online. Any and all help for this build is appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: The closer the better, looking to have purchased by the end of this month ( January 2014 )

Budget Range: Under $3,000 after Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Notepad++, Occasional gaming. ( needs to be relatively fast when opening large text files containing code and should not take time to load when i make edits )

Are you buying a monitor: No i currently have 2 new Dell s2440l Monitors

Parts to Upgrade: Brand new build

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, i am also taking recommendations i have been told to avoid windows 8 i am not sure if there is a specific reason i actually do not mind windows 8 its easy to navigate and i am not opposed to change ( currently have windows 7 )

Preferred Websites for Parts: Newegg.com

Location: Silicon Valley Area in California

Parts Preference: Intel, Samsung, EVGA, or MSI

Overclocking: If it will kill or hurt the lifespan of the build then i would like to avoid it.

SLI or Crossfire: If it will help reduce the delays i receive in photoshop etc. on my current built then i do not mind.

Monitor Resolution: 1920px x 1080px

Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I have had my current pc for 5 years and i am becoming frustrated with the load times, time to build a new computer.

I have provided the list of the two partial builds below. There will be a list of this or the other questions, for all of the parts i would like to have the same colors within the computer whether or not the case has a window. The thought of having blue sticks of ram in a pc with red and black parts will just bug the $h1t out of me, for a while anyway.

Micro-ATX Partial Build
I really love the smaller more compact builds with less bays etc. So this case really caught my eye when i began looking for a case to start the build.

Rosewill Legacy U3-S-Window Silver Aluminum Alloy MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147212

The only issue is the lack of space since it is a smaller case but this would be the ideal case for me, will take up little space in my car, on my desk, and will not be as heavy to carry around as my current pc.

If this case is absolutely to small to fit the parts that i will be purchasing i would be able to settle for the

BitFenix Phenom M BFC-PHM-300-WWXKK-RP Arctic White Steel / Plastic MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811345036

Again simplistic shell is what i like most about these cases along with the compact size. I would prefer the first case as well in part due to the window but if necessary i would be fine with this case.

As for the motherboard for these Micro-ATX cases i made an online search for the best micro-atx motherboard and i was lead to this

ASUS MAXIMUS VI GENE LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131975

I am going to list the ATX partial build after the case and motherboard the rest i sort of have figured but would still like guidance/assistance in finding the proper parts.

ATX Partial Build
The goal is the same, small, compact pc with a nice simple visual appeal to it. After searching i came across this case.

Rosewill Legacy MX2-S Trio Fans ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147202

I also made a online search for the best ATX Motherboard and i was led to this

ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131989

The question i have for the two partial builds are dependent on whether or not the parts i have chosen will fit. I also want to know if there are better motherboards to replace the ones i have or if my selection will suit my needs.

Below is the rest of the parts that i already picked out with the help from a separate forum.

Ram

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL10D-16GBXL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231528

I was told that the blue sticks were better, i was wondering how much better will they be, will i be fine with the red, ( has to do with color of the interior, if the motherboard contains red accents i would prefer red sticks )

Primary Hard Drive

SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1539

Secondary Hard Drive

Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380

Primary SSD with hybrid secondary, i was told this was a pretty good combo, if there is a better combination or alternative i do not mind switching.

Processor

Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I74770K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901

Graphics Card

EVGA 03G-P4-2884-KR GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support w/EVGA ACX Cooler Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487003

This is the primary reason for the case options, i believe it does not fit in the first case that i have listed but fits in the other two. If there is a better card that does not put me over my $3,000 limit and will fit in the first case with the window then please let me know.

As far as the power supply and Cooler goes i was leaning in the direction of these

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 850W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139022

Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme (CLW0224) Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106220

I do not absolutely have to have a water cooler i would just like to ensure that the heat stays down without the pc making a whole lot of noise. Silent fans and liquid cooler was the way i was going to go, but with limited knowledge on the matter i figured i would turn for help. Same goes with the power supply i was just recommended a psu and i saved it in cart.

Thank you in advance for the help :)

Here is my Suggested Build:

Proc: Intel I7-4770 = $339.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901

Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming LGA 1150 = $187.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130692

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) = $149.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231315
(I went with 4x4GB sticks to get the 16GB for the bandwidth performance.)

PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular = $149.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

GPU: MSI GTX 780Ti GAMING GeForce GTX 780 Ti = $709.99 w/$5.92 Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127770
(I only went with 1 GPU beacause 3GB of RAM is way more then enough for 2 monitors that only run @ 1080p each.)

1st HDD: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256BW 2.5" 256GB = $199.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1539
(The SSD was sold out and did not show how much shipping would be. However 1 model up was only $1 shipping.)

2nd HDD: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache = $126.99 w/Free Shipping.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380

OS: Windows 7 64-bit = $99.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
(I chose 7 because of game/program compatibility. Although if you do decide to go with Windows 8 it would only be $10-$20 more.)

Case: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO = $99.99 + $9.99 Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119265
(I chose this case because it is actually smaller, height wise, then either one of the Micro-ATX cases you had selected but it is just a little wider. It also has steel reinforced handles on the sides of the case to make it easy to carry.)

Optical Drive: ASUS Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM 4MB Cache = $84.99 w/$0.99 Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135252
(I went with a BR Burner over just a DVD Burner in case you wanted to watch movies or something. If you don't want a BR Burner then just find a DVD Burner you like on NewEgg. They run about $20 each.)

Liquid Cooler: Thermaltake Water 3.0 Pro (CLW0223) Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 120MM = $84.99 w/Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106219
(The first gen I7's run a lot hotter then the selected/current I7 does, so you don't really need a 240mm liquid cooler)
(Mount it inside the back of the case where the exhaust fan would normally go.)

Total Cost at time of post including shipping = $2251.16

The Mobo, RAM, and GPU all are Red and Black. The case and BR Burner are Black as well. So everything that you can actually see is either Red or Black.
