how to resolve a problem when there is a yellow spot on the network icon

whats your actual fault eg no email/websites loading?
warning symbol = no internet access (fault)
check your IP address (command line - ipconfig) - if its a 169.254.xxx.xxx address its a communication issue between the computer and the modem, if its a normal address (10.xxx.xxx.xxx or 192.168.xxx.xxx etc) its a connection issue from the modem to the outside world (username/password issues, modem issue, isp issues etc)
