hello netizens! i am wondering if i can squeeze a few more fps by means of OCing from SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 270X 4GB GDDR5 OC WITH BOOST with my old build.

i5 650
h55m-d2h mobo
8gb corsair xms3 (2x4gb)
SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 270X 4GB GDDR5 OC WITH BOOST
750w thermaltake psu

i know that my cpu and mobo is way outdated and upgrade is in a planning stage to i5 4670k and GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-D3H motherboard. for now i'm getting a max of 67 fps and occasionally drop to 30 fps averaging of 43-57 fps whenever i play bf4.

is there anyway i can keep the minimum fps to 40? please note that i'm a noob to this thing. everyone has to start somewhere, right? :D

If you get a failed OC you need to lower the core or memory clock whichever you tried to increase.

If you are not confident in the overclocking business I'd advise you not to overvolt your GPU. It can damage or shorten its lifespan.

However MSI Afterburner has this 'Power Limit' slider which you can push to 20% safely. It dynamically allows your GPU to draw more power if it needs to, to be stable at high overclocks.
A CPU bottleneck will have a big impact on the minimum fps, but then BF4 naturally has big framerate drops even on a very powerful PC. It depends on what is being displayed on the screen. If you stare down at the floor or sky, your framerate will shoot up. If you look at heavy combat your framerate will drop.

Overclocking your GPU might help with increasing framerate in general but there is no such thing as minimum framerate in games (at least these kinds of demanding games)

To overclock is fairly simple. Install MSI Afterburner and increase the core clock and memory clock. If you increase them too high you will get graphical glitches or crashing. In that case you need to lower the overclock until the problem goes away.

Look up on guides on how to overclock your graphics card. There is no definite "max" overclock for any GPU. It depends on your luck. The steps are pretty much the same for all graphics cards.

thanks man. if i got a good stable oc and decided to go further but failed. from that failed oc, do i need to go further and play with core clock and memory clock? and what is your take on increasing voltage?
