Hey,

I am thinking about connecting the newest, more or less maxed out, retina macbook pro 13in to an external video card in order to have more power for gaming. I know I would probably get a lot more power with building a desctop pc, but I like the idea of having a mac I can kind of "transform" into a desctop pc at home.

What do you think of this connection?

1. thunderbolt cable:

2. ExpressCard adapter:

3.1 Peal Eco Adapter:

or
3.2 ViDock 4 Plus Overdrive:

4. Video Card: any suggestions? in case of picking the 3.2 option it can take up to 300W

Do you think this set-up would work out? Has anybody of you already made some experiences with this or a similar set-up?

Thanks guys!

Why not just build a great PC and install OS X on that instead. I run Windows 8.1 and OS X 10.9.1 on my intel i5 rig and it runs great. And in alot of ways it runs better than on a real macbook Pro.

I think you are contemplating spending a lot of money on a fragile, ugly setup that probably won't work. And in the end you are still stuck with a Mac, which is not the best platform for gaming.

Thanks for the fast replies, I guess you are right, but I am not that type of hardcore gamer, that needs the best available equipment.. I would use the mac for university and everything and occasionally play with the connected video card. I already looked in some other forums and saw that some guys already connected their mac with this or a similar set-up, therefore it definitely is possible

Has no-one of you tried this or a similar set-up?
